Higher Hopes:
The
IDEAL is to
Identify, Develop,
Educate, Advocate
and Lead.
REDEFINING "COOL" BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY
The
Higher Hopes’ team believes that all communities
should be safe, drug-free places, where young people have the opportunity to
grow and achieve at and into their highest potential.
Higher Hopes intends to be a factory that
produces hope, motivation, resilience and
transformation. In
fact, even the name of our organization was born out of life experiences of
one of our youth that exemplified transformation.
During
one of our Real Talk group sessions, one of our Future Leaders
Of the World (FLOW) shared that she lived in a
foster home because her mother had transitioned as a result of the HIV virus
and her father was shot and killed in a robbery.
She
said that we had to be like water because it changes its shape to go around
objects in its way and then comes back stronger and with more force than before.
That’s where the
H2O in our name
originated. We feel
that if we exhibit and internalize that kind of unbreakable spirit, we will
be able to facilitate that type of change within our youth, families and
communities. We
also call our youth participants
Future Leaders
Of the World (FLOW) in her honor.
Higher Hopes intends to make a difference by implementing our empirical,
community based approach (I.D.E.A.L.; MindSweep & Real Talk) to:
Preserve the Viability of Indigenous Leadership
Engage
the community within its own context
Assess
the Strengths of the Individual, Family & the Community
Connect the Entire Circle of Interdependence (Support Network)
Evolve
by increasing Resilience and Transformative outcomes
